This work is a response to the tradition of functionality in ceramics, and at the same time, seeks to move beyond it.

I make objects that, through scale, form, and surface, elicit intense tactile responses and inspire physical engagement. Varying surface textures and colors, nontraditional materials working in conjunction with clay, motion, and scale are methods I use to heighten basic functional forms. My pieces have a bit of unruliness built into them, a tension between “use” and “play.”

I build surprising and delightful objects; things that engage the user to handle them with care, thoughtfulness, and a sense of humor.
